Sigma Tau Delta
Established in the early 1980s, the Rho Omega Chapter of Sigma Tau Delta, the International English Honor Society, honors students who achieve high academic standing in the study of Literature. Membership in Sigma Tau Delta is by invitation only. Requirements are at least a 3.75 grade point average for 6 credit hours or more in Literature courses at UHCL. Screening and induction are conducted every spring. The chapter's other major annual activity is "Lit Wit Jeopardy," held each fall near Halloween. Students write Jeopardy-style questions on literature, the arts, history, and pop culture for faculty from Literature and other Humanities disciplines. These contestants (usually in costume) provide answers laced with mordant sarcasm, condescending irony, withering wit, droll litotes, and uproarious hyperbole.
